Where did May go? Hello June!

June 4, 2015

I can't believe we are in June! That's because I've been working with members of Tonari Gumi in their commercial kitchen immersed in a new project called Shako Club. I'm more active on my blog for Shako Club so please visit for regular updates. The Shako Club blog is a place where you can find wellness tips, recipes, in-the-kitchen photos and much more. I've brought back a daily drawing activity by illustrating an ongoing series of new watercolour and ink drawings such as this one titled 'Blue Hairnet Days' - an homage to our food safe fashion in the kitchen.

In true Mochizuki style several projects are running concurrently. You can say several pots are on the stove.  I'm not going to list them all or else people will wonder if I ever sleep. So just few updates here:

I'm working with the lovely Maiko Yamamoto on a new performance work for Spatial Poetics XIV which takes place July 9th as part of the Powell Street Festival. This rendition of Spatial Poetics is curated by Makiko Hara and also features a new work by Stacey Ho and Julia Aoki. Save the date folks - it's called power Asian women! Get your tickets here!

Back to the topic of drawings - some spot illustrations are featured in Rita Wong's new book undercurrent published by nightwood editions. Rita and I have another watery collaboration of words and images coming soon!
