An experimental ink and sound animation

40 is a short experimental animation housed in an installation called Magic School produced at the Daisen Animation Residency in Daisen, Tottori-ken Japan. 40 is based on the traditional form of Chinese divination called the Iching and represents the Hexagram 40 Deliverance where clarity comes after the storm. In this short film I use 20 found naturally made ink test samples on postcard and add 20 more images to the pile of movement. The experiments of the movement of both ink tests and mistake marks create the content this film. Magic School is a one month project at Daisen where Cindy Mochizuki read fortunes for 63 people inside the head of a karasu tengu (crow spirit) These readings were hand painted using the same natural inks to produce 3 animations to be experienced in an installation setting.
